Terrence Karn has been a character dancer, global musician, dance accompanist and composer for a wide variety of theatrical venues, both nationally and internationally, for 25 years. As an accomplished character dancer, he has performed with the Andahazy Ballet, Hamburg State Opera Ballet and Houston Grand Opera. As highly sought after composer and accompanist, Terrence has composed pieces for Travesty Dance Company in New York, Sandra Organ Dance Company, The Urban Indian Beat and Jane Weiner's Hope Stone Dance and continues to create new music for internationally acclaimed artists as well as participate and compose for a variety of other ethnic bands. Not just performer and teacher, Mr. Karn has helped guide P. A. C. E. S in Hawaii as their Artistic Director and currently performs/Co-Directs the Gypsy Dance Theater in Houston. His training as a dancer and musician came from the Ali Akbar College, Royal Winnepeg Ballet, Children’s Theater of Minneapolis and through studies with master teachers from around the world including Sri Diam Ali Qudri, Sri Natya Raja Ram, Kyra Nijinsky, Gwen Verdon, Marcel Marceau, Yurek Lasowski, Leonide Massine, Jose Greco, Nikolai Zurkovin, Celso Maldinado, Hamza El Din and Marcus Tula Khan Wise. Terrence is an accomplished and thoroughly experienced master teacher and instructor. Having worked with Young Audiences of Houston for fifteen years as teacher and performer, he continues this legacy of education with The Houston Ballet Academy as Character Dance instructor, The American Russian Cultural Exchange as Ballet Master, University of Houston Dance Department and the Rice Dance Theatre as Music Director. Mr. Karn also teaches workshops for people of all ages and backgrounds including those with special needs. This work has led him to a three-year affiliation with The Bates Dance Festival where he guides at-risk youth in creating music.
